About Us

On May 22, 1902 Captain W.D. Mitchell and wife F.H. Mitchell donated the property at 401 FM 3278 (Camilla, Texas) Coldspring, Texas for a building to be erected upon the land and used for religious purposes.  At the age of 33, James Thomas McGowen was one of the overseers of the First Baptist Church Camilla.  Records reflect that in 1922 Camilla church was a mission church, it later became an organized church and functioned for many years. In about 1965, it disbanded and the remaining members joined First Baptist Church Coldspring.  Later the church reorganized as First Baptist Church Camilla.

In 1997 First Baptist Church Coldspring gave a gift of over $4,000 to help repair weather-related damages.  Pastor Dennis Greenhall was one of the pastors who preached at FBC Camilla.  In August 1989 Bro. Art Gillinger and wife Theresa Gillinger came to FBC Camilla as the pastor.  He provided many years of dedicated service to the Lord, many funerals, baptisms, weddings, sermons, and many long hard hours of work.  Art Gillinger retired August 2013.  He is truly a part of Camilla history.

August 2013 Bro. Mike Richard was asked to be pastor.  Pastor Mike has high energy and commitment to the church. He started by remodeling the sanctuary and fellowship hall on the 119-year-old church. Over the years many other improvements include: flag pole, clearing the property in front of church, joining Southern Baptist Association plus starting the VBS fund, building fund, and other business items needed to grow FBC Camilla.  He accepted his responsibly and feels it is truly an honor to serve at FBC Camilla.

Pastor Mike favorite saying “We are not a traditional church”.  He has made it an exceptional church.  He has saved and baptized many individuals.  He has been a blessing for the growth of the church members and he is truly loved and respected.  His wife Teresa is also an asset teaching the adult bible study and helps wherever there is a need.
